Could a new Encanto musical be coming to the Disneyland Resort? It appears so! Disney Live Entertainment is accepting submissions on the Disney Auditions website for the characters Mirabel, Isabela and Luisa from the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film Encanto. The posting for Mirabel is for a vocalist while Isabela and Luisa is for look-alikes.

The Disney Auditions listing for Mirabel states that the listing is for a limited-run entertainment offering at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California. Could this mean that the abandoned Hyperion Theater that has sat empty since the end of August 2023 will be utilized again? Let’s hope so! The last time the theater was used was for “Rogers the Musical” during the summer of 2023. While the musical was extremely popular, it only ran for just over two months as a limited-run entertainment offering.

Those auditioning for the role of Mirabel should be an experienced contemporary musical theatre mezzo-soprano and actor that resembles the character from the film.  Height requirements are between 5’2″ – 5’5″.  And, fluency in Spanish is a plus.

The listing for Isabela and Luisa is for seasonal character look-alike roles. The listing states that “characters appear each day in character greetings before thousands of guests, signing autographs, posing for pictures, and helping to create magical moments with guests of all ages”. While this listing was added to the Disney Auditions website today along with the Mirabel vocalist listing, these look-alike characters may or may not be part of the potential Encanto musical.

The Disney Auditions listing which was published today does not state a time-frame for the limited-run entertainment offering but does state that “Additional entertainment opportunities may be available at the end of the season”.

About the film

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Encanto tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house. Each member of the Madrigal family receives a special magical gift once they turn five years old which the family calls “gifts”. The magic is fueled by a candle that Abuela Alma received on the night of her late husbands death that has burned ever since without going out.

However, when Mirabel did not receive a “gift” on her fifth birthday, Abuela starts to worry that the magic is dying and that the candle flame will go out. Mirabel later discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger. So, she decides to “save the magic” and goes on a quest within the Madrigal home and family to find an answer on why the magic is dying.

The film features music and new songs by Emmy®, GRAMMY® and Tony Award® winner Lin-Manuel Miranda. The films soundtrack was a commercial success and reached number one on the US Billboard charts. And, the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” broke various records and became one of Disney’s most successful songs of all time.
