This weekend at the domestic box office, The Walt Disney Company takes the #2 & #3 spots with a Disney sequel and a Marvel Studios reboot.
Disney’s Freakier Friday opened this weekend and takes the #2 spot at the domestic box office with $29 gross ticket sales from 3,975 theaters. The sequel to the 2003 film, Freaky Friday, stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as Tess and Anna Coleman. The film also stars other cast members from the original 2003 film including Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray and Christina Vidal Mitchell.
Over two decades after an identity crisis, Anna’s blended family faces new challenges. Tess and Anna discover their past may be repeating with the next generation. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.

Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps takes the #3 spot at the domestic box office this weekend with $15.5M in ticket sales. The franchise reboot film was released three weeks ago and has grossed $230M at the domestic box office to date. The film stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
