This past week during the 2024 Quarter 4 Fiscal Year Presentation for The Walt Disney Company, the company announced its theatrical release dates for 2025. The list includes Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Searchlight and 20th Century movie releases. The Walt Disney Company owns 20th Century Fox now which is why there are a few releases on the schedule from Searchlight and 20th Century. Lucasfilm is obviously absent from the upcoming 2025 theatrical release schedule. A new Star Wars trilogy is supposably in the works but at this time, there will be no new theatrical releases from Lucasfilm in 2025. The next theatrical release from Lucasfilm is The Mandalorian & Grogu scheduled for May 22, 2026.
Below are the theatrical trailers for six of the upcoming releases from Disney, Pixar and Marvel.
Moana 2
Moana 2 will take place three years after the 2016 Disney animated film. In the sequel, Moana receives an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors and must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced. Moana along with Maui, Hei Hei and Pua sail across the far seas. The film will sail into theaters on November 27, 2024 with Auli‘i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson reprising their roles as the voice of Moana and Maui.
Mufasa: The Lion King
Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe. The King returns to the theaters this Holiday season on December 20, 2024.
Captain America: Brave New World
Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14, 2024 staring Anthony Mackie as Captain America. In the film, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) has officially taken up the mantle of Captain America. After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford), Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red – Red Hulk that is!
Snow White
Disney Snow White is a musical adventure that will take us back to the timeless story that Walt Disney brought to the big screen in 1937 as the first full-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The live-action film will include the beloved dwarfs: Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy when it arrives in theaters on March 21, 2025.
Thunderbolts*
Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* is headed to theaters May 2, 2025 and a new theatrical trailer was released recently at D23 Brazil. The film will feature a cast of misfit supers such as Taskmaster, Red Guardian, Black Widow and Bucky Barns (a.k.a. the Winter Soilder).
Elio
The Disney-Pixar film Elio arrives in theaters on June 13, 2025. The teaser trailer still shows the film as scheduled for a Spring 2024 which was the original release time-frame, but the film was pushed back to 2025.

Are you excited for the films on The Walt Disney Company theatrical release schedule? I am excited for Moana 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King which are coming to theaters in only a few weeks. In 2025, I am most excited for Captain America: Brave New World, Snow White and Zootopia 2. I want to be excited for the live action Lilo & Stitch because I love the Disney animated film, but I’ll wait until I see more previews before I make a final judgement on the new film.
