In August at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney announced a brand-new land themed around Pixar Animation Studios’ Monsters, Inc. that is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort. And while there was speculation about where the new land would be located, most fans had narrowed down the locations to either the Animation Courtyard or Grand Avenue where Muppet*Vision 3D is currently located. However, now we know where the new land is going and that the Muppets are moving out of Grand Avenue to make way for the Monsters to move in.
In the new Monsters, Inc. Land, guests will be able to stroll down the streets of Monstropolis and meet some of their favorite characters from the Disney-Pixar film. The new land will include an brand-new coaster attraction suspended ride that will recreate the door vault scene from the movie. The land will also include dining and shopping along with a new theater show.
To make way for the new Monsters, Inc. Land, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and the rest of the Muppets gang are moving right along and out of Grand Avenue. But the good news is that the Muppets are not moving very far. They are moving to Sunset Boulevard and taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
And even though this move means that Muppet*Vision 3D will be closing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney is looking for other ways to preserve the classic film as well as other parts of the attraction for fans to enjoy in the future. However, in the meantime, we know that when the Muppets take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, it will become the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets.
In the attraction, the Muppets will team up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival. Based on the concert art poster, the attraction will feature Kermit, Miss Piggy and Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem (including Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot and Lips).
Sunset Boulevard will also be the new location to find Muppets themed merchandise. There are currently a few different merchandise shops located on Sunset Boulevard that the Muppets could potentially take over including Rock Around the Shop at the exit of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster which make the most sense to become the future location for Muppets themed merchandise.
At this time, we do know that PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano will be closing along with Muppet*Vision 3D, but we do not know if either of these Muppets themed dining locations will be relocated to Sunset Boulevard.
Until this big move happens, Disney has stated that there’s still time to ride Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and catch Muppet*Vision 3D again before both attractions have their final curtain calls. Disney has not announced an exact date for this big move, but it will most likely take place in early 2025.
