Mom, Phineas and Ferb are creating a 5th season!

That’s right! Phineas and Ferb are returning soon with a 5th season and the original creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff ‘Swampy’ Marsh are at the helm. In January 2023, it was announced that Disney had ordered two new seasons of the animated television series for Disney Channel and Disney+. And while we’ve only had a few hints from the creators, there hasn’t been a lot of news or updates on the new seasons nor when we can expect the new episodes to premiere.

New York Comic Con Panel Update

But, that is all about to change! On Thursday, October 17, 2024, creators and executive producers Dan Povenmire and Jeff ‘Swampy’ Marsh, along with unannounced special guests, will reunite at New York Comic Con (NYCC) with a sneak peek and exciting news about the highly anticipated new seasons of Phineas and Ferb. The two creators along with their special guests are scheduled for a panel discussion during NYCC on October 17th. The panel is titled “Busted! Behind the Scenes with the creators of Phineas and Ferb” and will take place from 3:30pm – 4:30pm in Room 405 in the Javits Center.

What have the characters been up to?

Both Povenmire and Marsh appeared at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in August 2024 during a panel discussion of the beloved animated series but the discussion was more of a look back at the original first four seasons. Since Phineas and Ferb concluded on June 12, 2015, we have seen the characters reunite in the first episode of the second season of Milo Murphy’s Law titled “The Phineas and Ferb Effect”. The episode aired on January 5, 2019 on the Disney Channel. Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz from the Phineas and Ferb series made an appearance at the end of season one of Milo Murphy’s Law in the episode titled “Fungus Among Us”. The character went on to be a series regular through the second and final season of the series.

The cast of Phineas and Ferb reunited again in Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe which premiered on Disney+ on August 28, 2020.

Since then, Povenmire has hinted at a cross-over of Phineas and Ferb characters on his Disney Channel series Hamster & Gretel, but a cross-over hasn’t taken place yet. However, the series is still in production with the first two episodes of it’s second season premiering just this past Saturday on September 14, 2024.

To be continued

With less than a month until the Phineas and Ferb panel discussion at NYCC, I am crossing my fingers for a premiere date announced for the next season of the animated series. Until then, the only question I have is “Where’s Perry?”
