During the “Beyond the Spires: An Insider Look at Disney Castles” panel at Destination D23 this weekend, Walt Disney Imagineers looked back over more than 50 years at the various overlays and color schemes given to Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom. The last overlay for Cinderella Castle was for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. Now, Cinderella Castle is getting a new overlay. Walt Disney Imagineers will be restoring the 189-foot castle to the original look of the castle when Walt Disney World opened in 1971.

The updated colors will feature grays, creams, blues, and touches of gold as shared in the artist concept rendering below.

The iconic Cinderella Castle has been the backdrop for photos for more than 50 years when guests of all-ages have visited the Magic Kingdom. Over the years, the castle has featured many colors and overlays, even becoming a giant birthday cake castle for Walt Disney World’s 25th Anniversary in 1996. And now, Cinderella Castle will undergo another transformation of color inspired by the classic and original look of the castle from when the park opened in 1971.
