Disney’s Animal Kingdom is celebrating the birth of a new addition to the Kilimanjaro Safaris family! A baby giraffe boy named Tucker was born recently to one of the savannas long-time residence. Tucker’s mother, Mara, joined the savanna in 2015 and has given birth three times since then. Her first calf was Jabari born in 2019. And now six years later later, her third calf is Tucker which is the first giraffe calf born at the Walt Disney World Resort since 2021.

Masai Giraffe
Mara and Tucker are Masai giraffe which is classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). There are around 30,000 Masai giraffes remaining globally. The Masai giraffe is native to East Africa and can be found in central and southern Kenya and in Tanzania.

The Masai giraffe is distinguished by its jagged and irregular spots. These irregular leaf-like blotches extend from the giraffes hooves to its head. The Masai giraffe can grow up to 18 feet tall, making it the largest giraffe species and the tallest land animal on Earth. The Masai giraffe’s most famous feature is its neck which contains seven vertebrae and makes up roughly one third of its body height. Its long and muscular tongue, which can be up to 20 inches in length, allows the giraffe to grab leaves from tall trees that are inaccessible to other animals.
On your next Kilimanjaro Safari adventure at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, keep an eye out for Mara and Tucker on the savanna!
