Today, 9/5 is Lightning McQueen Day! This honorary day was established by Disney in 2017 to promote the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of Disney-Pixar Cars 3 as well as to promote the Cars movie franchise. The date was chosen because it resembles Lightning McQueen’s racing number #95. Seven years later, Lightning McQueen Day is still celebrated by Disney, but now mainly used as a day to promote Cars merchandise.
