Inside Out 2 is Now the Highest Grossing Animated Movie of All Time

Congratulations to Disney & Pixar! Inside Out 2 is now the highest grossing animated movie of all time. The record was previously held by Walt Disney Animation Studios Frozen II (2019) which grossed $1.45 billion worldwide at the box office.¹

Inside Out 2 – The Highest Grossing Animated Movie of All Time

On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, Inside Out 2 surpassed $1.46 billion in global box office sales making it the new highest grossing animated movie of all time. And, the film hasn’t even opened in Japan yet which is sure to increase the total worldwide box office ticket sales. Inside Out 2 opens August 1, 2024 in Japan.

Disney-Pixar’s Inside Out 2 opened on June 14, 2024 in the United States and quickly became a success. On it’s opening weekend, the movie had the third-highest domestic opening weekend for an animated movie followed by Disney’s The Lion King (1994) and Disney Pixar’s Incredibles 2 (2018).

Now, the movie has taken the torch as the all time highest grossing animated movie with box office sales guaranteed to increase when the film opens in Japan next week. The Walt Disney Company which includes Pixar Animation Studios has good reason to celebrate!

About the Movie

Inside Out 2 takes place as Riley becomes a teenager and introduces brand new emotions to her mind. Of course, her previous emotions Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust are still running her emotional headquarters, but that will all change when new emotions like Anxiety, Ennui, Envy, Embarrassment and Nostalgia move in.

Disney-Pixar’s Inside Out 2 is directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen. Amy Poehler returns as the voice of Joy along with Phyllis Smith as Sadness and Lewis Black as Anger. Tony Hale takes over as the new voice of Fear (previously voiced by Bill Hader) and Liza Lapira as the new voice of Disgust (previously voiced by Mindy Kaling). Maya Hawke makes her debut as the voice of Anxiety. Inside Out 2 is written by Dave Holstein and Meg LeFauve.
