A new land themed around the Tropical Americas is coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park with sections of the land themed for Indiana Jones and Encanto. This expansion of Animal Kingdom will consist of a new 11-acre section of the park that will include two signature attractions and a large hacienda which will be one of the largest quick-service restaurants at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Part of the expansion area will include the current Dinoland USA at Disney’s Animal Kingdom – retheming this current land along with undeveloped land into the Tropical Americas area with Indiana Jones and Encanto themed attractions.
The announcement was made by Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro at the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. Work on the new land is scheduled to begin later this year with a projected 2027 opening date.
The land will also include a giant working carousel with hand-carved animals from various Disney stories. Guest will be able to enjoy this new family-friendly attraction when the new land opens.
Indiana Jones at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
A new Indiana Jones experience will be one of the new attractions in this new space at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. And, according to Disney, the experience will be different from any other Indiana Jones experience around the world (even though the concept art for the attraction looks an awful lot alike the Indy attraction at Disneyland park in California).
This new Indiana Jones attraction will be set in a Maya temple that guests will explore along with Indy. The attraction will be taking over the current “DINOSAUR” attraction in Dinoland USA. The attraction is set to be rethemed to an all-new Indiana Jones adventure (but it will most likely be very similar to the Disneyland park Indy attraction with maybe a different story since it will use the same ride system as “DINOSAUR”).
Encanto at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
The new Tropical Americas land will also include the first-ever Encanto themed ride-through attraction. This new attraction will be set inside the Casita, home of the Madrigal family from the Walt Disney Animation Studios film. Inside the Casita, Antonio has just received his special gift — the ability to communicate with animals — and his room has transformed into a rainforest. Guests will go along with Antonio as he explores his new room with encounters with the rest of the Madrigal family on the journey.
With construction on the Tropical Americas land set to begin this Fall, fans of Dinoland USA will have a few more months to experience “DINOSAUR” again along with the rest of the current land before the land becomes extinct.
