History of Disney Pin Trading
Disney Pin Trading started 25 years ago during the Millennium Celebration at EPCOT in Florida. Since then, hundreds of millions of Disney pins have been circulated. Not only are Disney pins produced and sold by Disney Parks, but you can also find Disney pins at BoxLunch, Hot Topic, Loungefly, Pink a la Mode and other retailers.
Disney Pin Trading is a fun way for guests at Disney Parks & Resorts to swap official Disney pins with Disney Cast Members or other Disney pin trading guests. Disney Cast Members all over the world wear lanyards that guests can trade from. And, you can find Disney pin boards in many merchandise and food & beverage locations as well as at Disney Hotel front desks and more locations around both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.
Some guests are avid Disney pin traders and collectors while some guests only want a special pin to commemorate an event or visit. Either way, there is a Disney pin for everyone featuring your favorite Disney characters, movies, television shows and more.
Hidden Disney
In addition to the thousands of pin designs found in Disney merchandise locations, there are special collectible sets called Hidden Disney sets that are only available by trading with Disney Cast Members or by purchasing a special Hidden Disney mystery pin pouch which includes 2 randomly selected Hidden Disney pins. Each Hidden Disney set contains unique designs with a small, hidden silver Disney icon on the pin. Originally, the Hidden Disney pins were called Hidden Mickey pins with a small, hidden silver Mickey head icon on the pin. However, with the acquisition of Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel into The Walt Disney Company family, these special pins are now called Hidden Disney pins with each brand having its own small, hidden silver icon on the pin.
How to Trade Pins with Cast Members
If you are new to Disney Pin Trading, here are a few tips to help you trade pins with Disney Cast Members on your next visit to a Disney Theme Park or Resort:
- Make sure you have a Disney pin ready to trade! Choose from official Disney pins that can be purchased at Disney merchandise locations at the Parks and Resorts or from DisneyStore.com. Some Disney Cast Members will also allow you to trade official Disney pins purchased from other retailers like Loungefly, Pink a la Mode and more. Just make sure your pin to trade has the official Disney copyright stamp on the back of the pin.
- Brush up on the latest guidelines for trading pins at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
- Look for Disney Cast Members with Disney Pin Trading boards and/or lanyards. Not all Disney Cast Members wear lanyards or have access to a pin board so please be respectful to all Cast Members.
- Say hello to the Cast Member and ask if you can look at their pins. Again, please be respectful to Cast Members as they are working their regular job and may be busy or assisting another guest when you spot their lanyard or pin board.
- Find a Disney pin with your favorite character, attraction, movie or design, and trade one of your pins with the Cast Member. Once you’ve traded with a Cast Member at least one time, you’re an official a Disney pin trader!
Tip: If you’re new to trading or collecting pins, I recommend purchasing a Disney Pin Trading Starter Set which contains a themed lanyard and 3-4 Disney pins. If you are not interested in the lanyard, another option is to purchase a Disney Mystery Pin Pouch which contains 5 randomly selected pins. Either of these options will get you started on your Disney pin trading journey.
