Another Price Increase

Starting October 12, 2023, the pricing for some Disney+ plans will increase once again. Since Disney+ premiered in 2019, the subscription plans have constantly increased every year and this year is no different.

Here are the details of the different subscription plans along with the current and new prices:

Disney+ Premium is currently $10.99/month or $109.99/year but will increase to $13.99/month or $139.99/year starting October 12, 2023. The premium subscription is Ad free and allows subscribers to download content for on the go.

The Disney+ Basic subscription with Ads will not see an increase at this time and is $7.99/month.

Disney offers several bundles that include Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+. The Disney Bundle Duo Basic with access to Disney+ and Hulu (both with Ads) for $9.99/month and the Disney Bundle Duo Premium with access to Disney+ and Hulu (both without Ads) for $19.99/month will not have a price increase at this time.

However, the Disney Bundle Trio Basic plan with access to Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ (all with Ads) will increase from $12.99/month to $14.99/month.

The Disney Bundle Trio Premium plan with access to Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ (all without Ads) will increase from $19.99/month to $24.99/month.

There is also a Legacy Disney Bundle with access to Disney+ (No Ads), Hulu (With Ads), and ESPN+ (With Ads) that is currently $14.99/month. This plan will increase to $18.99/month starting October 12, 2023. This plan is no longer available to purchase or switch into but existing subscribers will be able to keep their plan as long as they do not cancel or change it.

Note that existing subscribers will see the price increase on their next billing date on or after October 12, 2023. For example, if you are paying yearly, you will not see the price increase until your plan is up for renewal.

Compare to Netflix and What’s Right for You

I decided to look up Netflix’s current pricing as a comparison. Netflix’s Standard plan with Ads is actually $1.00 less per month at $6.99/month. However, Netflix’s Standard plan without Ads is $1.50 more per month at $15.49/month.

It’s hard to compare the content offered by Disney+ to the content offered by Netflix because they are so different. Disney+ offers a huge library of content from Disney Studios, Pixar Studios Lucas Film, Marvel Studios, ABC, National Geographic and Fox with very little original movies or series made exclusively for Disney+. Netflix offers a huge selection of original movies and series made exclusively for Netflix and a lot of other content from non-Disney owned studios. So, if you love Disney as much as I do, Disney+ is a must. But if Disney or Disney owned studios are not for you, then maybe Netflix might be a right fit for you. It really comes down to what you like and what you want to watch.

I have been a Disney+ subscriber since it premiered in 2019 and it’s the service I stream the most because I love the content which also includes a lot of older Disney Channel shows that I used to watch growing up. And, I love being able to watch any Disney, Pixar, Star Wars or Marvel movie anytime I want as well as older Disney shorts, movies and TV series. So Disney is right for me even with the price increase. However, I wish Disney+ would produce more original series like they did a year or two ago but then quickly dropped to only a few original series a year to save on production costs.

Let me know what you think of these price increases? Will you renew or cancel your subscription? I would love to hear from you.
