The legend has returned! Disney Studios’ Mufasa: The Lion King is coming to Disney+ on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Mufasa: The Lion King was released in domestic theaters on Friday, December 20, 2024. The film had a slow start at the box office but definitely was not a box office flop. To date, the film has grossed over $700 million worldwide.

Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, Disney Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.
Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King stars the voice talents of Aaron Pierre as Mufasa, Blue Ivy Carter as Kiara, Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, John Kani as Rafiki, Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Taka (who becomes Scar) and Tiffany Boone a Sarabi. The film was directed by Barry Jenkins and produced by Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak with songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
