Lightning Lane Updates

Starting July 24, 2024, Disney Genie+ is getting a new name. The service will be renamed to “Lightning Lane Multi Pass”. And, individual Lightning Lane will become “Lightning Lane Single Pass”. These changes are from guest feedback who have asked for simpler names and have asked to make Lightning Lane plans before their trip.

For the Disneyland Resort, the upcoming changes are only name changes. But for the Walt Disney World Resort, the Disney Genie+ service is not only changing names but also a whole lot more.

Starting July 24, 2024, when you purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you will now be able to make up to 3 Lightning Lane selections in a theme park, in advance of your visit. You’ll also be able to choose available times as you make your selections. And once you use a selection on the day of your park visit, check the My Disney Experience app for availability to make an additional selection. These upcoming changes are very similar to the way FastPass+ selections worked in the past and will include tiered attractions to choose from.

Lightning Lane Single Pass will work the same as it does today but you’ll now be able to make your purchase before your visit instead of waiting until the day of your visit. Lightning Lane Single Pass is for highly popular attractions and allows you to secure a time to ride the attraction on your park visit.

The biggest change is the option to plan ahead. If you are staying at a Disney Resort hotel or other select hotels, you will be able to purchase and plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance of your visit for your entire stay (up to a 14 day stay). If you are not staying at a Disney Resort hotel or one of the other select hotels, you will still be able to purchase and plan Lightning Lane passes up to 3 days in advance of your visit.

The My Disney Experience app will be updated on or before July 24 to make purchasing and planning Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass much quicker and easier with fewer steps and a new option to purchase both in one transaction.

The current complimentary Disney Genie service feature will continue to be available in the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps.

Again, at this time, the changes to Genie+ at the Disneyland Resort will be name changes only but that could change in the future as the resort expands as part of the DisneylandForward project.
