At the 2022 D23 Expo (now renamed to D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event), Disney announced that Porto’s Bakery & Cafe was coming to Downtown Disney District. But for over three years, there were no signs of the iconic Southern California bakery actually moving into the shopping & dining district. Over the last year or two, rumors have swirled that the bakery had backed out of it’s deal with Disney even though Disney Parks consistently mentioned a new location coming to the Disneyland Resort for Porto’s Bakery & Cafe in blog posts.
When the bakery was first announced in 2022, Disney stated that the La Brea’s Bakery building would be demolished and a new building would be constructed for Porto’s Bakery. Instead, Earl of Sandwich moved into the vacated building when their West End location was closed for expansion of dining and shopping locations on the West End. But last month, Earl of Sandwich officially closed the doors at their temporary location in the old La Brea’s Bakery building and has moved out to get ready for their brand new location opening on the West End of Downtown Disney this winter. In the meantime, if you are craving a bite from Earl of Sandwich, they have a pop-up location near “Star Wars Trading Post” that offers a selection of their menu items.

Porto’s Bakery & Cafe FINALLY coming to Downtown Disney District
As of today, Disney has officially confirmed that construction has FINALLY begun on the new location for Porto’s Bakery & Cafe at Downtown Disney District. The former La Brea’s Bakery (and Earl of Sandwich) building on the East End of the district near the entrance to Disney California Adventure Park will be demolished to build a brand new location for the iconic Southern California destination known for its sweet pastries as well as California-Cuban-inspired dishes.

Porto’s Bakery & Cafe at Downtown Disney will offer their signature Cheese Rolls, Potato Balls and other favorite goodies from the bakery and cafe. In addition, this new location will be the first Porto’s with sit-down table service and a full bar featuring an outdoor patio, striking exterior, and lots of cozy dining space. And based on the concept art, Porto’s will definitely be very large location with plenty of dining space inside for Disneyland Resort guests. The interior and exterior design of the new building will also follow the Mid-Century Modern design of the new and remodeled buildings on the West End of the district.

A tentative opening date has not been announced for the new Porto’s Bakery & Cafe at Downtown Disney District. And since construction is only in the beginning phases and the current building standing on the location site hasn’t been completely demolished yet, you can expect it to be at least 1-2 years before the new bakery & cafe location officially opens. But, as always, keeping checking back for updates on the construction and when the new Porto’s Bakery & Cafe will officially open at Downtown Disney District.
