The timeline of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Disneyland Resort is changing with BIG updates and favorite characters from the franchise FINALLY landing on Batuu. And, Disney is hoping that these changes will get more guests visiting and spending more time in Disneyland Park’s newest land.
History of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disneyland Park on May 31, 2019 with only one attraction, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, ready for guests to enjoy. A few months later during Phase Two of the land’s grand opening, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened as the second attraction in Disneyland’s largest and newest land. While Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been popular with guests, it has also struggled to maintain foot traffic and extended guest visits.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is one of the resorts most popular attractions but guests aren’t spending a lot of time on Batuu after experiencing the attraction. Disneyland Park can become grid-locked with guest traffic in many areas of the park with the exception of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and with BIG changes on the horizon, Disney is hoping to get more guests to the Outer Rim and keep guests interested in staying longer in the land as well as revisiting the land more often.
Big Changes on the Horizon
Beginning April 29, 2026, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park will expand its timeline to include more Star Wars eras which will bring some of the most beloved characters from the Star Wars Universe to Batuu.
Black Spire Outpost where the marketplace and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is located will roll back in time several decades, introducing beloved characters from across the Star Wars Universe with new props and graphics in some areas. Plus, musical selections from the Star Wars film scores will be heard throughout the land, adding to the atmosphere of the land to enhance the immersive experience.

Darth Vader will land on Batuu with his Imperial Stormtroopers for the first time as he searches for Luke Skywalker around Black Spire Outpost. Guests may also see Luke Skywalker roaming around the outpost seeking knowledge of the Force and artifacts related to lightsaber building, kyber crystals, and more.
Luke will be joined at the outpost by Leia Organa and Han Solo who may be spotted near the Millennium Falcon. Han Solo will be joined by Chewbacca as they keep watch over their prized ship.

Star Wars fans may remember that Luke Skywalker visited Batuu last Spring (2025) during Seasons of the Force along with R2-D2.

Familiar friends will remain
These new visitors to Batuu will join familiar faces that guests have seen before in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as they patrol Black Spire Outpost. Near the marketplace, visitors to Batuu may encounter Ahsoka Tano and The Mandalorian and Grogu. And, a new mission is coming to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run on May 22, 2026 featuring adventures of The Mandalorian and Grogu from their new film releasing on the same day. So, guests can expect to see The Mandalorian and Grogu patrolling the outpost more often this Spring and Summer.

Age of the Resistance
The forested area on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost will continue to represent a time inspired by the Age of the Resistance. Visitors to Batuu may find Rey around this Resistance camp, and if you’re bold enough, become a hero yourself in a climactic battle with the First Order aboard Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. And throughout the area, guests will be be further transported into the world of Star Wars with the addition of the beloved scores from the first six films by legendary composer John Williams.
Enhancements to Local Establishments and Shops
As Batuu’s history is represented with new storylines, guests may notice some updates to buildings and shops throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
First Order Cargo will transform into Black Spire Surplus, a military salvage operation offering artifacts from across the history of the galaxy, including Imperial and Rebel items from the Galactic Civil War.
As antiquities shops often do, Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities will display a different array of one-of-a-kind items from its past. The curiosities and artifacts in his shop will certainly change with the times.
An earlier generation of the Mubo family will operate Droid Depot, where they will be prototyping the BB style of droid. Visitors to Batuu will still have the opportunity to purchase and create your own droid companion at this shop.
In his search for information on lightsabers and the Force, Luke Skywalker will be interested in meeting with Savi. At Savi’s Workshop in the marketplace, guests will continue to have an opportunity to purchase and build their very own lightsaber under the guidance of Savi’s Gatherers.
Entertainment and Food
Most of the entertainment and food around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will remain the same with favorites like blue milk and ronto wraps still available for purchase. As night falls on Batuu, the legendary story of the Skywalkers projection show “Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga” will continue with “Fire of the Rising Moons” also being offered on select nights when Disneyland Park fireworks light up the sky.
