Another show is closing in Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park! The “Avengers Assemble!” stunt show that takes place on the rooftop of the Avengers Headquarters building is the next entertainment show to be axed at the Disneyland Resort. The stunt show stars Black Widow and Black Panther who are on patrol and battle Taskmaster and his minions who are trying to steal titanium. This is next of many shows at Avengers Campus that have been canceled or reduced. The final performances of the show will take place on April 5, 2025.
While the show did provide entertainment and atmosphere to Avengers Campus, it was an awkward and hard to view show since it took place on the roof of the Avengers Headquarters with several obstacles obstructing the view. But even with the viewing restrictions, the show always gathered a large crowd of guests who seemed to enjoy the entertainment.
The closing of “Avengers Assemble!” could have a little to do with the expansion of Avengers Campus. However, since the expansion of the campus is taking place in the backstage area behind Avengers Headquarters, it is a hard to believe that the expansion is the reason this stunt show is closing. And with the summer season and Disneyland’s 70th anniversary just around the corner, no new entertainment offerings have been announced for Avengers Campus.
Doctor Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts
The first show in Avengers Campus to get the axe was “Doctor Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts” which was performed in the Ancient Sanctum and canceled June 2024. The show always had a packed audiences in the small Ancient Sanctum and was an original entertainment offering when the campus opened in 2021. Now, the Ancient Sanctum is only used as a meet and greet area for Captain Marvel, Thor, Loki and some of the other Avengers patrolling the campus.
The Amazing Spider-Man!
Then last fall 2024, the stunt performers were removed from “The Amazing Spider-Man!” show on the rooftop of the WEB SLINGERS attraction building. Now, the show basically consists of Spider-Man appearing on the roof of WEB SLINGERS for about a minute (or less) before he enters the building for the stuntronic Spider-Man to fly across the sky as he slings from one side of the building to the other. Then, guests who are watching the show stand around waiting for something else to happen until Spider-Man appears on the ground level and offers a few high-fives to viewers before resuming his meet and greet. In all, the current show is less than two minutes. And while I love to see the stuntronic fly through the sky, it is such a disappointing show overall. Even before the stunt performers were removed, the show was really short and felt like it needed more, but at least Spider-Man would sling his web and crawl down the side of the building which gave a little more closure to an already short show. Here’s a video of the current “The Amazing Spider-Man!” show.
Story Time with Deadpool
And at the end holiday season which concluded in early January 2025, “Story Time with Deadpool” closed. The Deadpool show opened last summer and evolved to a holiday show during the Christmas season. And, while this show was most likely only intended to be a short-term show to promote the movie release of Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, the show always had a very large audience during each performance.
Rogers: The Musical
During summer 2023, a new show titled “Rogers: The Musical” opened at the Hyperion Theater to packed audiences. The show was based off a fictional Avengers Broadway show that was part of the Hawkeye Disney+ series. The show was announced as a limited time offering which was performed only two months before closing. And even though Disneyland had said the show was short-term, fans had hoped it would have been renewed for a longer term. Since then, the beautiful and larger capacity Hyperion Theater has sat empty at Disney California Adventure Park collecting dust with no new show announced at this time. Disney has stated that they want to increase capacity at the theme parks and reopening the Hyperion Theater would do just that, but instead the theater has remained dark for almost two years.

Entertainment at Avengers Campus
After “Avengers Assemble!” stunt show concludes performances on April 5, the only other entertainment offering in Avengers Campus will be “Warriors of Wakanda: The Disciplines of the Dora Milaje” and “Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off”. I don’t really think of “The Amazing Spider-Man!” as a show since it is basically only the stuntronic web slinging and the show is over in a blink of an eye.
So, why is Disney canceling so much entertainment in Avengers Campus — an area that already has only two attractions, one of which was not new to Avengers Campus — Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT? Yes, construction has begun on the expansion of the campus that will add two new attractions — Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab. But with a typical timeline of 2-3 years for construction of new attractions at Disney Parks, the expanded area and two new attractions will not open until 2027 or 2028.
In the meantime, more entertainment in the area would add atmosphere to an already lacking land. However, Disney has not announced any new entertainment coming to the land at this time. And based on rumors that stunt performers as well as other entertainment performers are being cut due to budget cuts, it is highly unlikely that any new entertainment will be coming to the campus in the near future.
