Welcome to a world where imagination and magic come to life – Disneyland Park’s Alice in Wonderland attraction in Fantasyland! Embark on a whimsical journey down the rabbit hole and join Alice as she explores the enchanting wonders of Wonderland. This iconic attraction brings the classic Lewis Carroll tale to life, offering an immersive experience like no other.
History of Alice in Wonderland at Disneyland Park
Since its opening in 1958, the Alice in Wonderland attraction at Disneyland Park has been captivating visitors with its magical experience. The idea for the Alice in Wonderland attraction came from Walt Disney himself, who wanted to bring the whimsical world of Wonderland to life. He envisioned a ride that would allow guests to step into Alice’s shoes and experience the magic firsthand. The attraction was designed to be a visual feast, with vibrant colors, intricate details, and larger-than-life characters by legendary Disney Imagineers Claude Coats, Ken Anderson, Collin Campbell, and Blaine Gibson (all of whom also worked on the Disney animated classic film).
The attraction takes guests down the rabbit hole in a caterpillar vehicle so they can experience the topsy-turvy world of Wonderland first-hand just like Alice did. Along the way, guests encounter the White Rabbit, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts (and the King), the Mad Hatter and many more whimsical characters from the classic Disney animated film.
Unlike other Disney dark rides, the Alice in Wonderland attraction also takes guests on a journey outside as the caterpillar vehicles travels down a winding hill to the climatic Mad Hatter’s tea party for a very merry unbirthday party.
Another Attraction inspired by Alice in Wonderland
As you step off the Alice in Wonderland attraction in Fantasyland at Disneyland Park, you’ll see the Mad Tea Party just across the walkway. The Mad Tea Party is a spinning teacup ride that allows guests to join the Mad Hatter and his friends for a whimsical tea party by spin and twirling around in a giant tea cup.
And you never know when Alice and/or the Mad Hatter might join you in a teacup as you spin around Wonderland!
Tips for experiencing Alice in Wonderland at Disneyland Park
Like many popular attractions at Disneyland Park, Alice in Wonderland can get very busy with a long queue line. The attraction typically has a 30 minute or more wait time throughout the day. The best chance of experiencing the attraction with a shorter wait time is first thing in the morning or right after the fireworks. The attraction does close for about an hour before the Disneyland Park fireworks for safety reasons but does reopen after the fireworks show once the area is cleared (usually about 30 minutes or so after the fireworks show).
The Disneyland app is constantly updated and provides real-time information on wait times, ride closures, and more. So, keep an eye on the app to find shorter wait times and to make sure the attraction is not temporarily closed.
Alice in Wonderland merchandise and souvenirs
No visit to Disneyland Park is complete without bringing home a piece of the magic. Luckily, there are plenty of Alice in Wonderland themed merchandise items and souvenirs available for purchase. From t-shirts and plush toys to collectible pins and artwork, there’s something for every fan of the classic tale.
Stop by the Mad Hatter’s Hat Shop adjacent to the attraction or the Emporium on Main Street U.S.A. to find your special Alice in Wonderland souvenir. Whether you’re looking for a memento of your visit or a gift for a loved one, you’re sure to find something special to take home.
Hidden details in Alice in Wonderland at Disneyland Park
Disneyland Park is known for its attention to detail, and Alice in Wonderland is no exception. As you explore the attraction, keep an eye out for subtle nods to the story. From the Cheshire Cat’s sneaky appearances to the Queen of Hearts’ royal insignias, there are plenty of surprises waiting to be discovered.
One of the most famous hidden details is the Hidden Mickey in the Queen of Hearts’ garden. Look closely at the roses that are being painted red on the left side of the ride vehicle. If you look on the green grass below the rose bush, you might spot a red hidden Mickey shape formed from paint that has dripped off of the roses.
Meet The Cast
Guests can meet the cast of Alice in Wonderland at Disneyland Park. You can often find Alice and the Mad Hatter wandering around Fantasyland — and sometimes the White Rabbit too. You might even spot Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum goofing around in the park. And during the Halloween season, you may also find the Cheshire Cat and the Queen of Hearts around the park or at Disney California Adventure Park during Oogie Boogie Bash (the after-hours special ticketed Halloween party event).
Take a ride through Wonderland
Whether you’re a fan of the classic tale or simply looking for a magical experience, Alice in Wonderland is a must-visit attraction at Disneyland Park. Take a trip down the rabbit hole and let your imagination run wild as you explore the whimsical wonders of Wonderland. It’s a journey you won’t soon forget.
