The all-new live action film from The Walt Disney Company opened this weekend with a slow start and low ratings. Disney’s Snow White opened at the domestic box office with $43 million which was lower than what the studio had projected for the films opening weekend. And with overall reviews of only 44% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has received low rating from critics but high ratings from movie goers.

But don’t count out Disney’s Snow White yet! The Walt Disney Company has had a few films that opened with slow opening weekends but ended up grossing millions to billions worldwide over several weeks. Recently, both Mufasa: The Lion King and Captain America: Brave New World got off to slow starts at the box office with weak opening weekends but have done fairly well over several weeks. While neither of these films have been box office blockbusters, they have at least ended up grossing several million over budget. So with a slow start on opening weekend, there is still hope that Disney’s Snow White will perform well at the box office over the next few weeks.

About the film

Disney’s Snow White stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. The reimagined story does not follow the same story from the 1937 animated classic film. The live-action film takes a look at both Snow White and the Evil Queen’s backstory as well as introduces a different male lead named Jonathan who is not a Prince.

The film features all-new songs from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul including “Waiting On A Wish” performed by Zegler and “All Is Fair” performed by Gadot.

My Review

I really enjoyed Disney’s Snow White. I, like many others, had concerns about Disney creating a live-action version of the classic story. However, Disney’s Snow White is so unique and different from the original 1937 animated classic film, that I felt it can be a stand-alone version that takes a different approach to the classic story.
