Relive the Story of Coco
A Musical Celebration of Coco is back at Disney California Adventure in the Plaza de la Familia and is performed 10 times a day (weather permitting) through November 2, 2023.
The Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia along with the GRAMMY® Award-winning Mariachi Divas bring the story of Coco to life through song and dance. Mateo, the lead singer and storyteller, tells visitors how Miguel wanted to play music but his family had banned music from their house and would say “No Music”. So Miguel goes on a journey to learn about his great, great grandfather in the land of the dead and is surprised to learn that his new skeleton pal in the land of the dead, Hector, is not only his great, great grandfather but the one who wrote the hit songs that Ernesto de la Cruz was famous for.
The best part of this show, in my opinion, is when the Miguel puppet and his puppeteer arrive. Yes, Miguel is brought to life by a puppeteer to share his love of music with the crowd and perform two songs for the audience. The Miguel puppet is truly adorable and brings the story to life.
After the show, visit the gazebo in the Plaza de la Familia and meet Miguel and one of his puppeteers.
The songs performed during A Musical Celebration of Coco include “Remember Me”, “Un Poco Loco”, “Proud Corazón” and “The World Es Mi Familia”.
As a side note, those who were able to purchase Oogie Boogie Bash tickets to the sold out special event at Disney California Adventure, are able to meet the once famous Ernesto de la Cruz.
